I’ve mentioned one of the ways you as a business owner can build business value is to divest your company of outdated or inefficient product lines and services well in advance of when you plan to exit your business. But you also may want to consider adding product lines or services to your business to enhance its marketability and appeal to a future buyer.

Enhancing the “sales appeal” of your business can be as simple as adding a product or service or as extensive as acquiring another company whose offerings complement your current ones. The important thing, from an Exit Planning perspective, is to make sure you don’t add to your business randomly. You and your Certified Exit Planning Advisor team should perform the due diligence necessary ahead of time to be sure any additions to your business will in fact enhance its value, rather than spreading your resources too thinly.
